2011: The year in which absolutely nothing of note...

So between the activities of the day, I’ve been thinking of a viable approach to Tumbleweed.
The first Tumbleweed comic I did years ago was just a 5 page sequence, and I think I’d want to keep that up, though the number of pages would be variable. It’d be more like a series of vignettes cycling around the same characters. There’s a progression in a larger plot, so to...

why is there a thread on /bara/ about women loving bara
and why are there posts about guys feeling uncomfortable about it
maybe I’ve just too involved in the tf2 fandom but women are just as capable as loving hot hairy sweaty mansex as men are
here’s the thread in case you guys are curious:

Funny someone says that the board is a...

I think I understand why folks drink on New Year's...
Or, at least I understand the desire to consume enough alcohol that one forgets the majority of the passing year.
kinofourpaws asked: I saw "psychotic Cajun alligator" while looking back through your posts and... and I'd just like to say that's a beautiful mofo. That would be Huey, right? I'd love to see more of him eventually.
drillbot asked: I love every last one of these characters. Can't wait to see how this turns out :)

I know Hoodie Buddies are supposed to be for your MP3 players, but I totally just hooked it up to my laptop like the clever dork I am. If not my laptop, it’s usually hooked up to my phone with Pandora running.
(One of the disadvantage of having headphones directly in my hoodie is that I have a habit of putting hoodie strings in my mouth. I’ve already caught myself on a couple...

don’t think my reply went through so uh
just wanted to say
the whole Tumbleweed concept reminds me of Rango
but in a really really good way
I knew as soon as I saw Rango that I was doomed (I also lamented that now that Rango was made, I will probably never have the chance to work on a movie that will be that focused on reptiles).
Fortunately, the only similiarities Rango and...

owl-recluse asked: Wait, what's going on about Missing E?

I thought Tumblr had worked out it’s issues with Missing E like, last year already? Granted, I didn’t pay much attention last time there was a fuss about it.

oldmanyellsatcloud said: Wouldn’t the silhouettes of the two characters be a wee bit more important in defining that rather than their facial features?
That is character design 101. I’m very familiar with it.
I had drawn two figures on the preliminary sketches, but ultimately only posted this guy because I wasn’t happy with the face of the other guy. I’m not gonna post an...

rubbyrubbishbin replied: A fursona is an avatar of yourself typically. Its not a character but an cartoon representation of yourself.
I’ve been involved with the furry community for nearly 9 years now (That’s scary when I type that outloud). I know what “fursonas” are supposed to be. I was only pointing out how I share a similiar connection to my characters as someone...

orrahyu replied: Haha, I always get confused with a lot of folks. Because they have male characters, but they’re female. xD
I’ve been to many conventions where people were like “WHAT? KILO IS A CHICK?!” and their minds were blown. I generally don’t help the issue because I try give off a male presence over the internet unless I’m in a more personal space. It’s...

rubbyrubbishbin said: do you have an fa account?
I do, but I’m lucky to remember to check it or upload anything new. The community makes me generally uncomfortable and frustrates me at times, so I’m probably avoiding it. Tumblr is best bet for art stuffs of the animal variety, so you’re not missing anything.

oldmanyellsatcloud said: Technically wouldn’t it be interspecies, not interracial?
The world of Tumbleweed is vaguely reminisent of Toontown, where you have humans and animal folk coexisting. If they were both animal people, sure, but the “couple” are humans so that doesn’t work, haha. I know I was tossing around the idea to make them animals, but ended up going with human...

It all makes sense in MY mind
Brain: Hmm, ya know, now not only is it a homosexual relationship, but it's an interracial one.
Me: It's okay, I trust readers won't notice that at all considering that the main antagonist is a T-Rex in a suit, his right hand man is a psychotic cajun alligator, and there's a showgirl with pyrokinetic powers. Frankly, that stuff is gonna be harder to get readers to believe.
Brain: True. You can never make this easy for me, can you?
Me: NOPE.
Have you ever been in love? Horrible, isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It...

digitalduckie replied: You can do it Kilo. I’m sure you’re trying, but I’d focus more on the character of the… character than the physical aspects when it comes to keeping source influence. Not that that’s an auto-ticket to ‘feels right’ville. OTL
The thing, though, at the core of the character, he doesn’t work as a shrimpy looking guy or a fat guy or things like that. He still has to be...

Designing the second character is proving to be a lot harder, probably because I’m so attached to the source character I’m deriving him from. Trying all these different facial feature combinations and nothing feels totally right, even when I’m basing them off of reference photos of actual older men. Dammit dammit dammit.

Late night story babble time.
Tumbleweed was one of my secondary comic ideas that took place an American Southwest setting with a mixed population of animal people (mostly reptilian) and humans. It featured a T-Rex mob boss and his influence extending from a colossal gambling mecca to the sleepy town of Tumbleweed, though the main focus for me was the story of a man’s newfound fatherhood.
Like the ATLAS story,...

digitalduckie replied: I don’t think there’d be any less argument. Honestly part of the fun of discussing the TF2 characters is that speculation and debate over what’s more likely/valid and what isn’t. The key is to not take it personally or trash others for their thoughts
Oh, if only that last sentence were a more prominent mindset, not just in fandom, but in general. Then I wouldn’t mind...

kingpyrojack answered: If you are asking if People RP tf2 OCs, then yes, people do, I am one of them. I am also a active player of the game.
I’m not quite what I was getting at. I apologize for not being more clear. I’m familiar with TF2 RPs myself, and though my Soldier was intended to resemble canon, he still developed into something more akin to a fan character.
I guess what...

Don't make me regret posing this question, folks.
You know, after last night’s babbling, I had to wonder…
TF2verse and characters are so open to interpretation, people often have different visions of the canon characters, right? And the game itself has integrated a lot of character customization.
Would it be safe to say at that point, people are just developing original fan characters? Does a stigma against OCs still exist in the...

teratomarty said: Kilo, there’s no-one I’d rather have up against the aliens than you.
I dunno if I can handle all this faith in my alien combat skills.
A lot of my strategy against aliens was based off of Signs and Lilo and Stitch which told me that aliens don’t like water. And the War of the Worlds strategy doesn’t work if the aliens wear suits and helmets. So that leaves me with...

Death of A Party: A Babbling
It’s weird to say you’re beginning to dislike some aspect of fandom you had a large part in propagating, but I can’t deny that it’s true. At the time the goal wasn’t to make it popular, just to fill a hole I observed. I wasn’t as enthusiastic about other stuff being produced so I produced it myself. And I’ll admit there was a time that I enjoyed that I had...

I hadn’t realized that Mission: Impossible 4 was Brad Bird’s first big live action movie gig. The only reason I really tagged along with my brother and dad was because I knew I’d enjoy Simon Pegg, so as soon as I saw that Brad was directing, my expectations rose, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was pretty good. I could nitpick things as there are action movie tropes I take...

On the plus side...
I’ve been assigned whiteboard duties for our DEP meetings for my apparent exceptional handwriting skills. My hands are my only appendages who don’t fail me on a regular basis.

I’m not a very gifted person when it comes to body coordination. My appendages never want to do what my brain tells them to, which makes going right, left, or about face while standing at attention more difficult than it needs to be. And it’s hard to practice here at home because the carpet has a lot more traction than the recruiter’s office, meaning the only viable places for me...
